Writing Task IELTS (Academic)
Writing Tasks for Academic exam givers of IELTS
Students who want to study abroad choose to give academic IELTS. So in this exam, you have one of the important sections called the writing section.
For this writing section, you will be getting 60 minutes of time, and you will be having 2 tasks in this.
Writing task 1:
1. You need to spend no more than 20 minutes on this.
2. You should write no less than 150 words. (may end till 170)
3. This task carries only 33% of the whole writing task.
4. You will get the marks based on :
- Task Achievement
- Coherence and cohesion
- Vocabulary and Grammar
5. You have to write a report on a chart. (Bar graph, maps, pie charts, diagrams, tables, process)
Example: You have to describe a graph containing any data mentioned.
You need to describe properly what you see in the graph with proper grammatical sentences and proper values of the graph.
Tips:
1. Introduce the topic given to you along with the picture names.
2. Write the values and names properly if given to you.
3. The second paragraph should contain detailed information in a lucid way.
4. Lastly, you must conclude the whole thing.
Writing task 2:
1. You need to respond to a point of view or agreement or problem.
2. You need to write 250 words(max 270) in about 40 minutes of time.
3. This task carries only 66% of the whole writing task.
4. You will get the marks based on :
- Task Achievement
- Coherence and cohesion
- Vocabulary and Grammar
This task may be related to:
1. Agree/Disagree on- diet, fitness, health, food, work, business
2. Discuss 2 opinions on- education, science, society, environment, family, technology
3. Causes and effects on- society, environment, family
4. Problems and solutions on- society, environment, family
5. Causes and solutions on- crime
Example: The growing number of overweight people is putting a strain on the health care system in an effort to deal with the health issues involved. Some people think that the best way to deal with this problem is to introduce more physical education lessons in the school curriculum. To what extent you agree or disagree?
For this question, you need to express your views properly. Never express a confusing opinion. Stick to one option and explain your answers.
Tips:
1. You need to have an introductory paragraph, where you will introduce your topic name and you should also mention which part are you going to write about(for example: if you agree then you should mention that if not then related to disagree part)
2. Then you must keep your opinions in the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs.
3. Then you must conclude at last keeping your strong point.
