Sudha Murthy : Engineer, Teacher, Social Worker, Author

Sudha Murthy

The lady with a gorgeous smile in this picture is Sudha Murthy, who has made a place to stay in many of our hearts. She is a brave engineer( I will tell you why brave in the content below), a great teacher, a good author, and a social worker too.

Her earlier name was Sudha Kulkarni after getting married to Narayan Murthy her game got changed to Sudha Murthy. She was born on 19th August 1950  Shiggaon, Haveri, Karnataka, India.

Education:

B.E in Electrical and Electronics (KLE Technology University),
M.E in Computer Science (Indian Institution of Science)

Career:

Her engineering career has been a bit crazy and challenging. She is the daughter of Surgeon and she planned to choose to pursue Engineering but, many of her relatives were like being a girl you should not opt for it. But then every girl is the heart of her father and he supported her to do according to her goals and plans and even her mother supported her. What else a girl needs to go ahead in the future if she gets full support from parents? 😉

Ahe had been selected to go for an interview for India's largest auto manufacturer company TELCO but then during the interview, she was rejected because she was female. She was dejected but then she did not lose hope while going home she purchased a postcard and started writing a letter to Ratan Tata. Luckily or maybe by her inner confidence, the letter had been reached to Ratan Ji and he arranged an interview for her and she got selected and became the first female employee to work in TELCO.

Then as time passed she got married to Narayan Murthy and founded Infosys with him and to date, it has been one of the best IT industries. Along with this Sudha Murthy is also a great teacher students enjoy her lectures a lot. Other teachers sometimes feel bad because they get to see students only during Sudha Murthy's lecture other than that they won't see students much. One interesting thing about her is more than teaching she tells stories to students who are worth listening to.

Also, a great author who has written books worth reading a lot.

Family:

Spouse- Narayan Murthy
Children- Akshata Murthy married to Rishi Sunak(Chancellor of the Exchequer of the UK) and Rohan Murthy

  • IIT Kanpur awarded her Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science

(There are many awards yet which are not mentioned, I have only mentioned the highlighted ones)

Books:

She has written many books and which are worth reading to get some morals. Also, she has written many books for kids too.
Some of the names of the books are below:

  • The Bird With The Golden Wings
  • The Day I Stopped Drinking Milk: Life Lessons From Here and There
  • Wise and Otherwise
  • The Old Man and His God

  • Dollar Bahu

Her books are translated into many languages, this itself shows how famous are her books.

Social Activity:

Murthy's Infosys Foundation is a public charitable trust founded in 1996 and Sudha Murthy is one of the trustees. Through Foundation she has built 2,300 houses in the flood-affected areas.
They do social activities that cover the field of healthcare, education, empowerment of women, public hygiene, art and culture, and poverty alleviation at the grassroots level.
She still keeps doing this and is also a very simple and down to earth lady.

Hobbies:

Watching films( great fan to watch many movies a day), writing, talking to people and telling stories to students.

What information I have displayed is also less to describe Sudha Murthy, literally, she is a gem of our nation and also a great inspiration for everyone.

So, engineers, you can do great things for your nation. I can help you with inspirations and you have to help your self by finding the right path and by your diligence you can build a great life for yourself.

You yourself is your life's sculpture.
